Why?

  • Because Whatsapp has amassed the reach of 400M users in India supporting 10 indian languages.
  • Indian users on Whatsapp have been dominating since the beginning compared to the 1.5B active world-wide users of whatsapp.
  • Whatsapp has a DAU of 1B — With such a huge active user base, I will definitely consider launching my product build on Whatsapp as my product segment which definitely intersects.
  • Whatsapp Payments, though they are late in this space, have been used prominently which will help my business easily.
  • On average, Whatsapp has been banning 2M fake accounts monthly. This increases the trust in the audience and my product as well.
  • Additional features like Whatsapp voice, video calls, status, session lengths show how active the business accounts of my Product build on this platform.

Why not?

  • Because the downtime of Whatsapp can easily affect my product if I am building on it.
  • There have been security issues with Whatsapp earlier. A fraction of my users may not be comfortable sharing their personal information on Whatsapp.
  • Whatsapp has been buggy. There have been reports in the past of messages being deleted on their own. This might lead to misunderstandings when I’m conversing with a customer using my product.
  • Whatsapp is also experimenting with newer features which are resulting in mixed reactions with the audience. Eg: Privacy issues, Less editing features & I shared it directly with the group by mistake.
