One of the newly cultivated habits of mine in 2020 was drafting my Gratitude list before I go to bed or the first thing in the morning. Gratitude is defined as:
“Gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”.
The word gratitude is derived from the Latin word gratia, which means grace, graciousness, or gratefulness (depending on the context). In some ways, gratitude encompasses all of these meanings.
With gratitude, people acknowledge the goodness in their lives. In the process, people usually recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside themselves.
As a result, gratitude also helps people connect to something larger than themselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.
After listing the Gratitude list, I realized that I had taken so many things for granted in our day-to-day life. Initially, I couldn’t list many but once I realized what would’ve happened if things went haywire, that’s when I understood the importance of small things & recognized them to offer my thanks.

The beauty is to thank the Universe for the success of a certain wishful event in advance. This works like a charm. It is also a manifestation technique. The outcome is usually better than what we had expected it to be. Try this out!
I also made a template in Trello that I duplicate and fill it up with my stream of thoughts uninterrupted.

This exercise has made me conscious about the events of the day & keep me grounded. This also brings clarity in planning for the future. When I re-read the events of a month, I realize that it’s been such an eventful month. It reads my state of mind.
You may think that journaling simply means jotting down your thoughts at the end of the day — a sort of running log of your emotions, dreams, anxieties, and the like — but it can be much more. Its a therapy for me. It monitors one’s headspace.
It serves as a journal about the thinking patterns, happenings in a day, life events, and also funny when I would’ve written an expectation in advance. It is a self-love journal of how one feels.
Some people journal it in a diary which is also good. I’d prefer to save it digitally just for my privacy 🙂 It still has the same goodness however you save them. This is one of the fond memory of 2020 I’d cherish & love to continue for the years to comes.
What’s one optimistic thing that happened to you during 2020?
