Designing products for the long run — on screens and on trails

Gamification perspective for a happy & healthy addiction

Jar is a synonym for digital gold investments. It comes with recurring automated investment so eases the process for the user. It also intimates the user for targeted funnels for market updates, daylight savings, auspicious times, etc and many more triggering the habit of investing in gold.

The best apart of digital gold is that there’s no fret on saving it physically. We can buy & sell anytime on the app without any hassle. It’s just a click of a button for the live Gold rate.

Jar app does come with the most intuitive onboarding screen & also with illustrations wherever necessary so that even an illiterate can use the app with ease eradicating the multiple language/vernacular support from tier 2, and tier 3 audience.

To increase the Product KPIs like session length, and user engagement, improvise the FTUE (First Time User Experience), & many others — I’ve listed a few good-to-have add-ons in the app with simple wireframes.

  1. User-friendly interface: An easy-to-use interface that is intuitive and visually appealing helps here. The assumption is that the user is on the app to make an investment. The goal is to help the user achieve the same, with zero obstacles without leaving any ground for doubts & suspensions on his mind. Making sure the navigation is simple and the buttons are easy to find is the agenda.
  2. Personalization: Allowing users to customize the app based on their financial goals and preferences is the key perspective. The goal numbers may vary on a month-on-month basis, but the bare minimal way of choosing the automated investment is the approach.
“Images” speak louder than words

2. Simplicity: Making sure the app is easy to use and understand, with clear instructions and simple language. The trigger to the subconscious is a twist here. Going old school is the new trend.

Eg: Campa Cola is being re-introduced by Reliance to bank on the adulation & love from the audience. Creates nostalgia amount the old & curiosity among the youth.

Be it stick figures, tally marks, etc can be used as Gold is one of the most traditional investments post the barter system in human evolution.

3. Investment tracking: Incorporate features that allow users to track their investment portfolio and monitor their returns over time. This gives a dopamine hit if they hit a number which is either low or high since they are competing with themselves here. It’s a win-win in retrospect since we always want to improve & beat our previous records.

Tackle the Human emotional psychology

4. Feedback: Provide regular feedback to users on their financial progress, including charts, graphs, and other visual aids. Allowing them to visualise the future via statistics is the sweet spot here.

5. Personalized recommendations: Use algorithms to provide personalized recommendations based on users’ financial habits and goals.

Plan the seed in the user’s mind to visualise

6. Responsible Investing: Our investment goals change often though we tend to keep them constant. There’s always a new office trip, a vacation, a friend’s wedding, a housewarming, a birthday treat with loved ones, & so on. On months like these we would minimise the investing numbers to live. In such cases, we can freeze the investments or pause temporarily by setting a no-investment day/week/month. This can be done by setting a schedule for the same with a start date & end date.

One can also set an upper limit & lower limit based on individual investment goals. Investing mindfully is the main purpose here.

Responsible Investing — Plan SMART goals

7. Positive reinforcement: Using positive statements or affirmations brings back the focus of the user to the app in case he/she is distracted or has second thoughts. Be it via quotes, CTAs, or any other means -works like a charm every time.

Eg: When you lose a game, we never say you lost. Instead, we say “Try again”, “Better luck next time”, “Play Again”, etc.

8. Rewards and incentives: Offer rewards or incentives for users who reach certain milestones or goals, such as saving a certain amount of money, or gold, or reaching a certain investment return. Validation is a very important aspect to keep the users addicted to the app. Every small move deserves to be celebrated. Who doesn’t love a small token of appreciation?

9. Social features: Incorporate social features that allow users to share their financial progress with friends and family or participate in challenges or competitions.

Unity is strength

10. Gamification: Incorporate game-like features into the app, such as points, badges or achievements, to make financial management more fun and engaging. Accumulating virtual currency is the driver here. With this being a word of mouth, one can flex & helps the app go viral for the right reasons.

Eg: Jar points.

11. Collaboration: Allowing users to collaborate with others, such as friends, acquaintances, family members or financial advisors, to help them achieve their financial goals. Togetherness in a good cause is welcoming.

12. Community: Create a sense of community among users through social features, such as forums or groups, to encourage them to stay engaged with the app. A small gesture withholding the personal identity shows no resistance from the users.

ROI may come & go, but the community stays strong promoting the brand, to continue being the power users of the app, loyally.

Stand tall & beat your friends
